Brandon Alves

Brandon started his music career in Pocatello, Idaho in 2007 when he started learning the saxophone. He marched in the marching band at Highland High School under Jay Ronk. He continued his saxophone studies all the way through college where he has performed solos with multiple ensembles at Idaho State University along with his own personal saxophone recitals under Dr. Helman and Dr. Kloss. Brandon also started to learn cello and has taken cello lessons from Dr. Cox during his time at ISU. He has taken many conducting lessons as well, under with Dr. Sorenson, Jen Drake and Mastro Conner Gray Covington. In the summer of 2017 he marched with the Seattle Cascades Drum and Bugle Corp.
Brandon has worked with many music ensembles throughout Southeast Idaho. He works for Highland High School Marching Band as a Woodwind Instructor and Visual Instructor. During his time at Highland he was given the opportunity to write drill and has done so since 2020. In 2019 he helped lead Highland to an undefeated marching band season and with many first place finishes in visual. Other ensembles he has worked for include Hillcrest High School, Idaho Falls High School, Bonneville High School and the Idaho State University Marching Band. Outside of marching ensembles, Brandon also works with a concert band called Snake River New Horizon Band; in which he is one of two conductors.
In the 2019 - 2020 season Brandon joined North Star as a visual tech. Soon after in the 2020 - 2021 he took over as the head visual instructor and helped lead North Star in high achieving visual and general effect-visual captions. During the 2021 - 2022 season he helped North Star prepare for its inaugural performance at WGI Championships in which the ensemble took 10th overall and 6th in visual. In 2023, North Star placed 3rd overall at WGI World Championships, earning a bronze medal, and placed 3rd in visual.
Brandon is the Band Director for the middle schools of West Minico and East Minico in Idaho. He teaches beginning band and focuses on expanding the knowledge of the current music students at these schools. He is excited to teach future generations to learn to love music.
