Kayley Johanson
Visual Staff
Kayley tried her hand with violin at the age of nine, but it wasn't a good fit. When she began playing the trumpet in sixth grade band, however, it was magic and playing became like breathing. When her mother bought her a piano for the family, Kayley taught herselft to play that as weel and would later go on to compete locally and accompany vaiour ensembles throughout the years.
In middle school and high school, Kayley had the opportunity to have Jason Bull as her band director. Under his tutelage, she continued playing in ensembles and bands across the Gem State, including Allstate bands and honor bands. She is eternally grateful to Mr. Bull for seeing the best in his students and constantly supporting and pushing her to grow and be a better musician...even when she decided to switch to french horn in her senior year.
Kayley's greatest honor in music was the opportunity to be a founding member of the new Idaho Falls Tiger Marching Band. During their first season they were able to take home a third place trophy. After this, she was able to serve as a drum major for two years during which time the band secured a first place trophy and all caption awards in their division. Throughout high school, Kayley was able to serve in various leadership roles and attend several leadership camps. She learned many life-changing skills and truely loved serving and teacher her fellow students.
After graduating from Idaho Falls High School in 2017, Kayley began her career working as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (currently at Idaho Falls Community Hospital). She maintained her connections with the marching band and served in different staff roles, including teaching drum majors and other band leadership, visual and show design, or even just grunt work. Kayley is happiest doing whatever she can to help bands grow and succeed.
When COVID hit in 2020, Kayley was forced to take a step back from the marching arts to be better available to her pharmacy team. However, she is bursting with excitement to be back working with musicians and can't wait to see what this season hold for North Star.
Kayley currently lived in Idaho Falls with her betta fish Moo-Moo and entirely too many house plants that are barely tolerated by her boyfriend, Keanan.
